OEE & production efficiency

Overall equipment effectiveness only helps when the numbers behind it are trustworthy. These guides start with the definitions — availability, performance and quality — and move on to the practical parts: agreeing on counters and the time base, separating stops from speed and quality losses, and turning the result into a decision on the shop floor.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Short answers.

What data do I need to calculate OEE?

Planned production time, run time, ideal cycle time and total and good counts are enough. Add the number of failures and repair time to get MTBF and MTTR as well.

Is OEE enough on its own?

No. OEE shows how large the loss is, not why it happens. Use it together with stop-reason codes, counter validation and operator feedback.
