Understanding Manufacturing Metrics

Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)

OEE is the gold standard for measuring manufacturing productivity. It identifies the percentage of manufacturing time that is truly productive. An OEE score of 100% represents perfect production: manufacturing only good parts, as fast as possible, with no stop time.

Throughput Analysis

Throughput is the rate at which a system generates units of output per unit of time. Improving throughput can significantly impact overall productivity and profitability.

Cycle Time vs. Takt Time

Cycle time is how long it takes to produce one unit. Takt time is how often you need to produce one unit to meet customer demand. When cycle time exceeds takt time, production won't meet demand.

Inventory Turnover

Inventory turnover measures how many times a company's inventory is sold and replaced over a period. A high ratio implies either strong sales or insufficient inventory. A low ratio indicates weak sales or excess inventory.
